It’s important that we start to think about how we do a quick self check-in.
Those who have attended my Full Moon Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) / Tapping Group (check my Facebook group for the next one schedule), know that I always start with a check in so you can tune into how you are feeling now.
How are you feeling and what are you feeling in your body, that is trying to get your attention?
Tuning into your body and doing a body scan as the first self check-in, allows us some space to know how we are feeling and where in our body we are carrying our emotion. It could be showing up as hot, heavy, tight or throbbing pain in an area of our body.
This is your body, telling you that something isn’t right and by tuning into that and leaning into the emotion, you can decide how you support yourself with whatever you need.
Tips for self check-in
Meditation – some time to allow yourself to just be, in that moment. I find a walk, on the canal in Appley Bridge, a great way to get some space and fresh air which helps to calm me down when I can feel my anxiety rising. It allows me some breathing space between a situation and my emotional responses.
Speaking your truth – saying something that you are holding back can cause tension in your jaw and block your throat chakra and it is a good indicator of when you aren’t saying something that you are feeling.
Practising mindfulness techniques – fear of the unknown, feeling vulnerable and out of control are signs that we need to focus on being more present. These techniques are simple and can be used in any moment, especially when we have a busy mind.
I love using tools like EFT which help to release the cortisol that our body is storing due to the flight, fight or freeze response that is triggered numerous times in our daily life.
Whatever it is, using self check-in and sitting with this, allows it to be in your conscious. This will support your self-care needs to enable you to make a choice which best supports how you are feeling.
Suppressing it, holding it down in your body is how this starts to affect you physically.
I offer group EFT sessions as well as 1:1 personalised coaching sessions to help you identify, manage and release what is draining your energy.
